Marie Tilbee

Marie maintains the Met Office's operational air quality forecast capability using a limited area configuration of the Met Office Unified Model.

Current activities

As part of the Air Quality and Composition Group, Marie is responsible for maintaining the Met Office's operational air quality forecast system AQUM (Air Quality in the Unified Model). AQUM is a regional air quality configuration of the Unified Model and runs each day to produce forecasts of the Daily Air Quality Index out to five days ahead.

Marie works to further develop the AQUM model, to improve its ability to forecast air pollution in the UK and investigate the impacts of pollution on the weather.

Career background

Marie joined the Met Office in 2009 as a member of the Scientific Consultancy group. Her work focused on supporting the development and delivery of Virtual Met Mast analysis of potential sites for wind energy generation. Prior to joining the Met Office, Marie completed a BSc in Chemistry at the University of Nottingham.
