Current activities

Matthew is developing plotting software to manipulate and visualise verification data. This involves high-volume data which compares forecasts and observations to determine the accuracy of forecasts. The software provides the tools to support verification by other scientists. In addition, Matthew is responsible for the administering of the site-specific databases and performs routine verification to monitor the performance of models.

Matthew also develops products to provide customers with accuracy reports of their specific forecast product, for example, Marine Accuracy PDFs.

Career background

Matthew joined the Met Office in 2009 as a Scientist in the Verification Diagnostics and Methods team. Prior to this, he completed a degree in Mathematics at Lancaster University. In 2012, he changed roles to become a Scientific Software Engineer in the Operational Verification team.
