This course is split into two modules and provides a basic background in UK and global applied climatology for staff responding to customer enquiries.
Location: Courses are held in the excellent Met Office College facilities at our Exeter headquarters or at a location of your choice.
Duration: Two days
Aim: To develop familiarity with UK climatology, with a focus on the factors vital to customer service.
On completion of this course you will be able to:
describe the climatology of various areas of the United Kingdom, with particular reference to the topography and proximity to the sea;
describe the broad-scale features in terms of typical UK surface patterns and weather systems, using your knowledge of air masses and frontal systems;
provide useful climatological guidance to customers, with particular emphasis on weather sensitivity & extreme value analysis, site representativity, rainfall return periods, MORECS and climate change impacts.

describe the climatology of a region with particular reference to the topography and ocean circulation;
describe the broad-scale features in terms of typical surface (and upper air) patterns and weather systems;
provide useful climatological guidance to customers, including information on associated severe weather.
