Designed for forecasting staff who are able to work independently but need to further develop some of the core forecasting competencies or specialist forecasting skills.

The Forecaster Professional Development programme:

  • covers a wide range of meteorological subjects;
  • acts as a refresher in core meteorological topics
  • extends and updates expertise in other specialist areas.

Core skills

The Core Forecasting Skills programme is made up of four, three-day courses; each is aimed at a specific forecasting interest.

Advanced

This Advanced Forecasting course has been designed to follow on from the Initial Forecasting course after two to three years experience of operational forecasting.

Global

The Global Meteorology course consists of four modules and is designed for those who forecast worldwide, particularly for the aviation community.

Marine

Marine forecasting training is designed for those who need an improved understanding of how numerical wave models produce their forecasts and output products.
