Rain will become heavy at times from the west later this morning and this afternoon. 15 to 20 mm are expected within 3 hours and up to 40 mm over some higher ground areas.

The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the latest Environment Agency Floodline and Flood Warnings in force and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice on traffic disruption on motorways and trunk roads.

There is a moderate risk of severe weather affecting much of western and southwestern Britain as well as southern Scotland today. Wet and windy conditions with occasionally heavy rain will spread from the south, the rain falling onto already saturated ground. Over higher ground 10 to 20mm of rain will fall quite widely, but locally as much as 40 mm is possible.
