Headline:

A fine day to come after a chilly start.

Today:

A chilly but bright start this morning with plenty of sunshine. Turning somewhat cloudier through this afternoon but many places remaining bright with some sunshine at times. Lighter winds than of late and feeling a bit warmer. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

Generally turning cloudier this evening and overnight with the odd shower, but clear spells are still likely at times. Turning chilly but not as cold as last night. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Friday:

A few showers are possible during the morning. Otherwise a fairly bright day with broken cloud and sunny intervals, these becoming more prolonged later. A brisk northwesterly breeze. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

A dry weekend for most with sunny periods on Saturday, then generally cloudier on Sunday. Isolated showers on Monday. Winds easing and feeling a bit warmer, though still chilly overnight.

Updated:

UK long range weather forecast

This will generally be a settled period with high pressure close to the UK throughout. Most locations will remain dry, with variable cloud cover. Although some small areas or bands of thicker cloud, hill fog, and patchy light rain or drizzle will float about day to day. There will also be a few showers, most likely in the east and south of England. Temperatures will often be around average by day, although with mostly light winds and clear skies it will feel warm in any sunshine. Overnight where cloud breaks allow, frosts are likely in rural areas. As already mentioned, winds will mostly be light, although slightly stronger winds are likely in the far southeast at times.

Updated:

During the early part of May high pressure will probably remain close to the UK, with a good deal of dry weather continuing for many areas. As we move further into May signals are finely balanced between drier than average and wetter than average conditions. As such fairly typical conditions are likely, with some good spells of dry weather just about anywhere, but also some more unsettled, showery interludes. Temperatures are likely to trend toward the warm side of average.
