Regional Forecast for South West England

Headline:

Feeling cold with brisk winds and showers from the east.

Today:

Western parts should stay mostly dry with bright or sunny spells. Further east it will turn cloudier with some showers feeding in. Feeling cold, especially in the brisk easterly wind. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight:

Some showers are possible for southern coastal parts. Elsewhere it should remain mostly dry, but under clear skies, especially in the west, it will turn cold with frost in places. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Wednesday:

After a bright start, the coastal showers should spread further inland through the day, some turning heavy and perhaps thundery. Less cold than Tuesday but winds strengthening later. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Cold but bright start on Thursday, otherwise often cloudy into the weekend with showers, heavy and thundery at times. Some overnight frosts and ice possible, but gradually becoming less cold.

Updated: 00:18 on Tue 20 Nov 2018 GMT

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Headline:

Feeling cold with brisk winds and frequent showers, some wintry.

Today:

Frequent showers pushing in from the east, some wintry over the highest hills. Sunny spells in the west, driest and brightest weather for northwest Scotland. Feeling cold, especially in the brisk easterly winds with gales around English North Sea coasts.

Tonight:

Heaviest, most frequent showers across the east, parts of Northern Ireland and coastal counties of southern England. Frost and ice under clear spells in the far northwest and southern England.

Wednesday:

Further frequent showers, heaviest over northeast England, Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland and southwest England. Sunny spells elsewhere, mainly far northwest. Feeling cold, strongest winds in the north and west.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Showers, heaviest and most frequent towards the east, perhaps still wintry at first. Becoming less cold by Saturday, with further showers, some heavy in the southwest.

Updated: 00:20 on Tue 20 Nov 2018 GMT

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Sunday 25 Nov 2018 to Tuesday 4 Dec 2018:

On Sunday, showers will continue near eastern coasts, though these will probably die out later. Most other areas will stay rather cloudy with relatively light winds. In the last few days of November, skies will often be fairly cloudy, with the likelihood of some showers, which may bring hill snow to the north of the UK. There will be sunny spells too, although the breeze will make for a marked wind chill at times. It will stay on the chilly side, with patchy frost or ice likely at night. Into early December, there is a lot of uncertainty in the forecast, as there is the chance of either a short-lived milder spell with winds from the west, or perhaps colder weather if the winds turn more northerly or northeasterly.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 5 Dec 2018 to Wednesday 19 Dec 2018:

Through this period, there is likely to be a continuation of cold and mainly dry weather for much of the UK, with sunny spells and a few showers. However, there is a chance that during early December the weather pattern may change temporarily, with fronts moving in from the west across the Atlantic. This would bring longer spells of rain, interspersed with brighter, showery interludes, and it would also become less cold. However, even if this change does happen, it won't be long before we have more settled weather again, perhaps by the middle of December. This would mean a return to colder conditions, with overnight frost and fog more likely.
