Regional Forecast for North West England

Headline:

Remaining cold with some snow and ice next week.

Today:

Mostly cloudy to start, with extensive hill fog and patchy drizzle in places. Most places should brighten up a touch, before further thicker cloud and patchy rain and hill snow arrives from the northwest later. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud and occasional rain and hill snow continuing southwards, but tending to fizzle out. This will leave clear skies across much of the region, allowing a widespread frost to develop. Minimum temperature -6 °C.

Monday:

Greater Manchester and Merseyside may start off rather murky, but otherwise it will be a frosty start. The mostly dry with some sunny spells and a freshening southwesterly wind. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

An icy start on Tuesday, with overnight wet and windy weather having cleared east. Then a day of frequent wintry showers, with snow accumulating on hills. Brighter, but cold thereafter.

Updated: 01:56 on Sun 20 Jan 2019 GMT

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Headline:

Staying predominantly cold over the next few days.

Today:

Rain and hill snow across western Scotland and Northern Ireland, perhaps bringing some icy stretches in places, will move east, weakening, reaching northern England and Wales later. Rather cloudy but mostly dry ahead of this. Showers in the northwest later.

Tonight:

Many central and southeastern parts will see extensive low cloud and hill fog, with patchy rain and drizzle in places. Many northern areas will be mostly clear and frosty.

Monday:

Low cloud across parts of England and Wales should break up to give some sunny spells. Meanwhile, strengthening winds, heavy rain and hill snow will make inroads into northwestern areas.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

An icy start as rain and hill snow clears east on Tuesday, with blustery, often wintry showers following on to western areas. Staying cold thereafter, though generally drier and brighter.

Updated: 01:50 on Sun 20 Jan 2019 GMT

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Friday 25 Jan 2019 to Sunday 3 Feb 2019:

On Friday, southeastern areas are likely to stay dry, bright and cold, perhaps with some freezing fog patches at first. Elsewhere it could turn less cold as a band of rain and drizzle moves in from the west, with some hill snow possible in the north. However, there is a small chance that it could stay dry, bright and cold across much of the country with wintry showers in the east. Thereafter, an unsettled period of weather is possible with further band of rain moving southeast across the UK, with brighter and showery weather in between. Snow is also possible in some northern and central areas at times as it turns increasingly cold with overnight frosts, although some brief milder interludes are possible too.

UK Outlook for Monday 4 Feb 2019 to Monday 18 Feb 2019:

Changeable conditions are most likely at first, with spells of rain, strong winds and some snow at times. However, very cold conditions are more likely to develop through this period with a greater chance of northerly and easterly winds. This brings an enhanced risk of snow and widespread frosts, however there is currently a large amount of uncertainty. The driest and brightest weather is likely to be in the northwest. The conditions described above could still be interspersed by some milder and wetter interludes, most likely across southern parts of the British Isles, and this would bring a risk of significant snow and ice at times.
