Northerly winds, occasionally strong across Shetland, bringing a mix of brighter spells and a few isolated light showers through the day. Temperatures down on the seasonal averages. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

The mix of clear spells sand a few light showers will persist. North to northwest winds strong at first across Shetland but tending to ease overnight. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Wednesday:

Dry through the morning with good sunny spells. North to northwest winds strengthening during the afternoon as showers develop, perhaps turning heavier by late afternoon. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Turning rather cloudy with showers becoming more frequent and occasionally heavy. Northerly breezes veering southeast Friday then strengthening Saturday.

UK long range weather forecast

An uncertain start to the period though likely unsettled as a frontal system pushes into southern areas and possibly across the UK through the weekend. Beyond this low pressure patterns becoming more dominant than of late with wet weather perhaps more likely to develop in parts of the south and east, with western and especially northern areas hanging on to the best of any drier interludes, though all parts are may see some rain at times. Onshore winds along eastern coasts will likely make it feel rather cold at times, though for all parts temperatures will likely trend back toward average. Into early May, something of a north-south split looks possible, with relatively drier conditions further to the north and the greatest chance of rain further to the south.

Updated:

In this period, the chances of unsettled weather are slightly less than usual in the north and increased briefly before falling average further south. Therefore, some spells of wetter weather are likely for all, but perhaps especially southern areas with the driest conditions probably further north. Temperatures will probably be near or a little below average, before returning to average late in the period, though it is worth noting that average temperatures themselves rise by around 1C per week at this time of year.
