    Strong, cold winds on Friday with showers, occasionally sunny. A slight frost overnight, then dry, occasionally sunny on Saturday, possible frost overnight. Rain and strong winds on Sunday. Becoming milder.

    Rain, snow and gales tonight, with showers in the north.

    This Evening and Tonight:

    Gales, locally severe gales, especially around coasts and hills,will spread across central and southern areas tonight, with occasionally heavy rain. Also, snow is expected for Northern Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland, with snow showers persisting across northwest Scotland.

    Thursday:

    Gales will clear eastern England early on Thursday leaving a cold and blustery day with sunny spells and scattered wintry showers, these most frequent in the north and west.

    Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

    Friday, cold with some wintry showers, mainly in northwest. Saturday, mainly dry and bright after a frosty start but rain in southwest later. Sunday, rain with some snow in east.

    Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

    UK Outlook for Monday 22 Jan 2018 to Wednesday 31 Jan 2018:

    Mainly dry and bright on Monday, although cloudier for southwestern parts later on Monday leading to a risk of rain and strong winds in the southwest by Tuesday. The latter half of the working week will see some rather unsettled weather with a rain band moving eastward on Wednesday followed by showers. Showers are likely to turn wintry in the north of the UK. There will be milder temperatures in the south on Wednesday, otherwise this period sees temperatures around average with limited overnight frosts. There remains quite a lot of uncertainty as we head into late January but the UK is likely to see a mixture of short-lived spells of rain and showers, with snow possible for some, followed by periods of colder, drier weather. Temperatures fluctuating around average.

    UK Outlook for Thursday 1 Feb 2018 to Thursday 15 Feb 2018:

    There is low confidence in the UK's weather through the first half of February. However, it is likely to be characterised by a mixture of short-lived spells of unsettled weather interspersed by showery periods and longer periods of more settled and drier weather. The unsettled spells will bring cloud and rain to parts of the UK and the showery periods may give snow in the north, especially over high ground. During the settled spells, it is likely to be cold with overnight frost and fog. Temperatures during this period will fluctuate around the average for the time of year.
