    Windy with frequent spells of heavy and showery rain, turning wintry over hills. Drier and brighter through the afternoon, but with sleet and snow spreading eastwards in the evening. Maximum Temperature 7 °C.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

    Breezy on Thursday, with sunny spells and showers perhaps wintry in places. Colder on Friday and Saturday, but largely dry and sunny with frost and ice overnight. Windy on Friday.

    Early icy patches in central and eastern parts, otherwise windy with frequent, heavy and blustery showers, spreading to all parts. Showers falling as rain for most, but increasingly turning wintry in the northwest later. Some brighter spells in between.

    Tonight:

    Frequent wintry showers in the north and west, with some organised spells of squally rain, sleet and mostly hill snow. Windy with gales in the southwest. Patchy frost and ice.

    Thursday:

    Sunshine and wintry showers, with some longer spells of rain, sleet and hill snow at times. Staying windy in the south, but winds easing further north. Feeling cold.

    Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

    Turning colder on Friday with plenty of sunshine, but northerly winds will bring showers around windward coasts. Mostly dry and frosty on Saturday. Rain arriving from the northwest during Sunday.

    UK Outlook for Sunday 17 Dec 2017 to Tuesday 26 Dec 2017:

    After a frosty start on Sunday, it will turn less cold. Cloud and outbreaks of rain are expected to spread to all areas by the end of the day, with strengthening winds and a perhaps hill snow for a time in the north. This is likely to bring a change to unsettled and milder conditions across country early next week. Through the rest of the period, generally milder but unsettled conditions are likely persist with bands of rain and hill snow interspersed by drier interludes, these most likely in the southeast. It may become very windy at times later next week with gales or severe gales in places. There remains a small chance that generally drier and colder conditions could affect southern areas at times.

    UK Outlook for Wednesday 27 Dec 2017 to Wednesday 10 Jan 2018:

    Generally changeable conditions look most likely persist until the end of December. Bands of rain are likely to move across the UK, interspersed with brighter showery conditions. Showers are likely to turn wintry at times, particularly in the north. It will often be windy with temperatures varying around normal. As we head into the start of January there is large uncertainty. However, a generally more settled spell of weather could become established. This would likely bring a mixture of colder and drier conditions with brief interludes of milder, wetter and windier weather. Snow is likely at times, especially in northern and central parts of the UK, as well as an increased likelihood of overnight frosts.
