    Dry, bright start. Heavy rain or sleet will spread northeastwards, with snow on high ground and briefly to lower levels. Rain accompanied by strong or gale force southeasterly winds, with severe gales along the Galloway coast. Becoming drier this evening. Maximum Temperature 5 °C.

    Tonight:

    Drier with clear periods at first. Showers will edge up from the south overnight, becoming more frequent and heavier later. Fresh or strong easterly winds. Minimum Temperature 2 °C.

    Wednesday:

    Rather cloudy in many areas with scattered showers. Drier over Dumfries and Galloway with sunny spells. Fresh northeasterly winds. Maximum Temperature 6 °C.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

    Drier, brighter on Thursday with lighter winds. Some sunshine on Friday with scattered showers and freshening westerly winds. Wet and windy weather will cross all parts during Saturday.

    Disruptive winds or snow for some areas today.

    Today:

    Heavy rain across Northern Ireland and southwest UK continues eastwards, accompanied by squally gale force winds. Rain turning to snow mainly across northern hills, heavy with drifting and blizzards. Severe gales following to southwestern parts, despite brighter skies and showers.

    Tonight:

    Rain and snow in the north easing. Further bands of showery rain for many. Gales continuing for some, severe in the southwest. Lighter winds in central UK. Less cold.

    Wednesday:

    Bands of showery rain will continue to affect many areas at times, although a few brighter spells for many. Gales in southwest and far northeast easing. Less cold in north.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

    Mainly unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain although occasionally brighter in the east. Often windy and rather cold though snow mainly restricted to high ground in the north.

    UK Outlook for Friday 10 Dec 2021 to Sunday 19 Dec 2021:

    To begin the period, drier and clearer conditions are likely, allowing for more extensive frost and patchy fog. Cloud and strong winds will travel east across the country, with a chance of showers or longer spells of rain for many. Hill snow likely in the north. Temperatures generally around average. Moving through the period, largely unsettled conditions are likely to persist, with the chance of further showers and longer spells of rain, heavy in places, with a chance of gales. Some showers are likely to turn wintry on hills at times. Towards the end of the period, more settled conditions are likely to develop, most likely with milder temperatures, but a chance of some brief colder interludes.

    Going into the Christmas period, it is likely to be milder than earlier in the month, with temperatures near to, or above normal, although some colder spells remain possible. It is likely to become more settled around Christmas and towards New Year with increased chance of overnight frost and fog during clearer spells.
