This Evening and Tonight:

Windy overnight, with a squally area of sleet and rain moving quickly east through the evening, with snow falling over the hills and to lower levels at times. Scattered heavy showers will follow overnight. Cold, with a risk of ice. Minimum Temperature 1 °C.

Thursday:

Sunshine and scattered showers, these mixed with hail at times and falling as snow on the hills. Winds easing through the day, with patchy ice where lying snow still remains. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Sunny for many on Friday, although windy with scattered showers in the far west. Winds easing Saturday but cloudier with some showers. Becoming milder with some rain arriving during Sunday.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
