PRECIS user support

The Met Office is involved in collaborative projects with organisations around the world.

Below are links to technical support pages on setting up and running PRECIS experiments. This includes installing PRECIS, obtaining boundary conditions to drive experiments and using the QUMP ensemble.

PRECIS forum

Our dedicated PRECIS forum allows users to discuss problems and solutions encountered during PRECIS setup, model runs and post processing. The forum is monitored by the Met Office PRECIS team and we will post solutions there for the entire community to benefit from. Therefore if you are experiencing challenges with PRECIS which are not addressed in the 'common errors' section below, please take a moment to search the forum, as the solution may be discussed there. For any unresolved problems, please email PRECIS and we will be happy to offer help.

Release of PRECIS2.0

The latest version of the PRECIS regional climate modelling system (PRECIS2.0) comes with faster model executable, modifications to simplify running PRECIS on cluster systems, new driving GCMs (including the first of a series of CMIP5 global models, and three members of the 20th Century Reanalysis version 2c) plus other improvements. If you are a current PRECIS user and would like to receive PRECIS2.0, click here to open a brief survey on your past or planned use of PRECIS. This will take less than five minutes to complete, and when it is submitted you will be sent instructions on how to obtain PRECIS 2.0.

Prospective users of PRECIS are required to attend a workshop, please visit the PRECIS workshops page for more information.
