Dr Peter Jermey

Peter performs validation of the regional reanalysis.

Peter works on data assimilation for global weather prediction.

Current activities

Peter's work focuses on global data assimilation. In particular he is developing a system for evaluating the performance of potential upgrades to the operational system. His work focuses on suite design, production, validation of results and data assimilation development.

Career background

Peter has worked in Data Assimilation and Ensembles at the Met Office since 2008 after graduating with a PhD in mathematical modelling of magnetic recording from the University of Plymouth. From 2012 to 2018 he worked on the EU-funded EURO4M reanalysis, the EU-funded UERRA reanalysis and  the IMDAA reanalysis, which is a collaboration with NCMRWF, funded by Indian National Monsoon Mission. From 2010 to 2012 he was a member of the Ensemble Data Assimilation team where he focused on developing ensemble data assimilation for use operationally. Before 2010 he was a member of the Global Data Assimilation team where his research concentrated on developing an outer loop for 4DVAR.
