Gritter Drivers Road Weather Training

OpenRoad minimising the effect of weather on your operations

This course has been designed to provide gritter drivers with an overview of winter road weather and its hazards.

Aim:  This course has been designed to provide an overview of winter roads and its hazards.

Designed for: All gritter drivers, including new staff.

Course length: One day.

Location: Courses can be held in the excellent Met Office College facilities at our Exeter headquarters or at a location of your choice.

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify conditions for hoar frost forming on the road;
  • state the importance of feeding back on the weather;
  • explain why gritting sometimes occurs in the rain;
  • appreciate the difficulties of a decision maker.
