When is the best time to visit Paphos?

Despite being culturally a European country Cyprus is closer physically to the Middle East, with practically no rain during the summer alongside scorching sunshine and high humidity. Heat waves are common and it’s not unheard of for temperatures to reach towards 40C. However if you prefer something cooler the rest of the year still offers warmth and plenty of sunshine, with spring and autumn highs averaging in the 20s Celsius.

Spring

In spring, it start to get warm quickly, with average highs reaching 19 Celsius in March, 22 Celsius in April, rising to 25 Celsius in May. There is as chance of rainfall unlike summer, but with only 10-30mm on average, this is still very dry compared to the UK.

 

Summer

If you’re looking for scorching hot sunshine and clear blue skies, then the summer months are the best time for you to visit. With as much as 12 hours of sunshine on average per day, it is not often there is a cloud in the sky. These are the driest months too, with practically no rainfall at all. However humidity is consistently very high throughout the summer.

 

Autumn

September can be the best month to visit during autumn, with the least amount of rainfall (5mm), the most amount of sunshine (10 hours) and the highest temperatures (31 Celsius). Heading through October and November, the weather steadily gets less hot, cloudier, and wetter. However, even in November temperatures are still a balmy 23 Celsius on average and there are a good 7 hours of sunshine on average per day.

 

Winter

Paphos can be a great place to catch a bit of winter warmth, with average daytime temperatures still a very mild 17 to 19 Celsius, compared to only 6-10 Celsius in the UK.   However this is by far the wettest season, with heavy thunderstorms bringing high rain totals.

Known as the mythical birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodite, Paphos is steeped in history with many points of archaeological interest, including ruins of Roman villas and plundered Tombs of the Kings. On the tip of the Marina is an Ottoman fort, last used by the British as a salt warehouse. The old town centre has plenty of shops and restaurants to discover, or there is an excellent coastal path where you can enjoy beautiful scenery with a cooling sea breeze.
