North West England weather forecast

Headline:

Turning drier as temperatures slowly climb through the week.

Today:

Rather cloudy at first with patchy light rain to the north. Brightening up with sunny periods in the afternoon but staying cloudy on western coasts. Breezy for many but feeling warm in any sunshine. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud remains in the west with maybe the odd spit of light rain. Can be breezy here to start but easing overnight. Dry elsewhere and milder than in previous days. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Wednesday:

Some low cloud along coasts and on high ground to start but sunny spells developing in the west through the afternoon. Low cloud thickens in the east with light drizzle. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Turning drier for most with more in the way of sunnier spells. Temperatures on an upward trend with maximums being above average for the start of May.

A fairly uncertain period through the bank holiday weekend with more likely a warm but cloudy period with bright spells, greatest in the north and showers more likely in the south. However there is also potential for a more unsettled spell to spread from the west with fresh winds and bands of rain mid-weekend, signals still unclear regards this. Into the new week all areas are likely to see a mixture of showery periods or spells of rain, though generally drier conditions expected. Overall, southern parts of the UK will probably be driest and sunniest with a north-westerly wind most likely bringing more changeable conditions across the north or northwest. Temperatures should remain close to or a little above normal for early May.

Updated:

In this period, the chances of unsettled weather are slightly less than usual in the far north but about the same as usual for the bulk of the UK. Therefore, some spells of wet weather are likely for all, but perhaps especially across southern/central areas while the driest conditions relative to normal are probably further north. The chance of below or above average temperatures is fairly balanced overall, but it is worth noting that average temperatures themselves rise by around 1C per week at this time of year.
