    New Year's Eve and Day bright with some heavy and blustery showers. Tuesday bright and chilly to start but heavy rain and strong winds arriving later, with hill snow.

    Rain moving across Scotland on Saturday bringing hill snow and stronger winds. Most other parts dry, bright and breezy but rain will move in from the southwest during the afternoon.

    Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

    New Year's Eve, blustery showers and feeling cold. Mostly dry and windy in south on New Year's Day, but rain and hill snow in the north. Turning wet during Tuesday.

    The middle of next week is set to remain unsettled with further bands of rain interspersed by showers moving across the country. It will also be windy, with the risk of gales and severe gales across the west. Heading into the first weekend of the New Year and the weather is likely to turn more showery and probably a little colder. The showers will be most frequent in the west, and perhaps turning to snow at times towards the north. Winds also remaining strong with gales possible at times. Thereafter it is likely to remain unsettled with further spells of rain, showers and strong winds. Temperatures will tend to trend back to nearer normal, but there will still be a continued risk of snow in northern and central parts.

    UK Outlook for Saturday 13 Jan 2018 to Saturday 27 Jan 2018:

    Probably remaining unsettled throughout the period, with further spells of rain, showers and strong winds moving across the country. The rain and showers will be most frequent in the west, with a continued risk of snow across northern and central parts in particular. There is however a chance of a more settled spell developing around the middle of next month bringing a risk of widespread frosts and fog. Temperatures likely to average out around normal for January, oscillating between milder during the spells of wind and rain, and colder during the more settled and showery periods.
