General situation

A deep low centred the northeast of Shetland will bring gales to northeastern waters this morning before moving quickly away eastwards. Thereafter, a westerly airflow will prevail, with strong winds in central and northern waters, and possibly gales in the far north.

Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney - Strong wind warning

General situation: Deepening Atlantic low moves away from Shetland Waters Thursday morning followed by a brief ridge of high pressure in the afternoon. Further Atlantic low will pass to the north of Shetland on Thursday night.

Forecast: Northwest gale 8 to storm 10, decreasing 5 to 7 later. Very rough, occasionally high at first, rough at times later in the east. Squally showers becoming fair. Good, occasionally poor at first.

Outlook for 12 Hours from 1800 UTC on Thursday 23 Sep until 0600 UTC on Friday 24 Sep: Northwesterly backing southwesterly, 5 to 7, increasing gale 8 for a time in the south. Very rough but rough at times in the east. Mainly fair, rain soon. Moderate or good, occasionally poor later.
