General situation

Low pressure centred to the southwest of the United Kingdom will push warm and humid air northwards across the country, bringing fog patches and thunderstorms to many areas. High pressure will then build across the north on Wednesday, giving quieter weather, however some fog will remain in southeastern waters.

Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney - Strong wind warning

Channel Islands - Strong wind warning

24 hour forecast: Northerly 2 to 4, increasing 4 to 5 this evening, perhaps locally 6 in the far southeast for a time, backing north to northwest 2 to 4 from midnight, then mainly westerly 1 to 3 by midday. Smooth to slight. Mist with occasional fog patches scattered showers, mainly in the east of the area at first, before becoming more widespread and heavy during the evening with thunder. Moderate, occasionally poor or very poor, locally good at times.

Outlook for the following 24 hours: West to northwest or variable 1 to 3, veering northeast by midnight, then east to northeast 4 to 5 from dawn Wednesday, perhaps locally 6 by midday, mainly mid-channel.
