Nearest Lat/Long and JSONP

Nearest Lat/Long and JSONP

The Met Office will be retiring the following functionality from DataPoint on Tuesday 8th March 2016.

  1. nearest lat/long
  2. JSONP

If you are a user of this functionality you will be impacted by this change which will require your code to be amended.

A tutorial describing how to Calculate closest locations to a latitude and longitude is available on DataPoint, providing a working self-contained JavaScript example of how to search sitelist.json files for the closest location to a latitude and longitude. There have also been posts regarding this issue on the DataPoint Support group, see an example post from February 2014.

Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) was implemented on DataPoint in May 2014 as an alternative to the JSONP functionality.  A notification was issued via the Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) page on 23rd May 2014, linking through to a Wikipedia article on Cross-origin resource sharing for more information.
