After predicting the change to much colder weather, forecasters at the Met Office are keeping a close eye on the threat of snow.
Sleet or snow showers are expected in eastern areas on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday, there is the risk of heavier snow and daytime temperatures not rising much above freezing.
Met Office Chief Forecaster, Frank Saunders, said: "Eastern parts of England are expected to see the most snow this week, but places further west could see a little snow too."
Next week will be cold with some very sharp frosts. However, it is still too early to say what it will be like on Christmas Day itself - so keep up to date with the latest weather forecasts.
