Grímsvötn volcano - ash cloud

As a Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre we're responsible for monitoring and reporting the spread of ash over the UK, Iceland and the north-eastern part of the North Atlantic Ocean.

When low-level eruptions increase significantly, we run our ash cloud model so as to advise the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and National Air Traffic Services (NATS) where the ash is likely to be. CAA, BAA, airlines and airports, can take this information into account when they make decisions about flights.
