From extreme rainfall to heatwaves, weather can have a significant impact on the water industry. With climate change predicted to increase the likelihood of significant weather events, accurate and timely weather and climate information will be vital.
The Met Office has continued to work closely with the water industry to develop a range of services that meet specific water and waste needs. We have products and services to help you with innovation, flooding events, resource management, leakage as well as operations and asset management. These services can help you face the challenges that severe weather presents, with confidence.
The Met Office is working closely with government agencies and water companies to assist in understanding, managing and forecasting the weather conditions relevant to the current drought affecting the south and east of England. For our water customers affected by drought we also offer relevant services such as demand forecasts and real-time assessments of rainfall, evaporation and soil moisture to show how weather may affect the water resource situation.
The Monthly Outlook also provides an essential planning tool to make informed decisions about managing water networks and better plan for drought risks.
