Gymnasts will use their dance and gymnastic skills to impress the judging panel in the rhythmic gymnastics.

The rhythmic gymnastic programme runs between 9 and 12 August and will see women compete with a range of apparatus while completing floor routines.

Rhythmic gymnastics is one of two events at the Olympic Games which are only contested by female athletes.

There are two medal categories:

  • Individual all-around competition
  • Group all-around competition

A judging panel will mark the routines deducting points for errors. Gymnastics is marked on how well gymnasts execute routines, as well as the level of difficulty of the moves.

At the 2008 Olympic Games, Russia won both Gold medals in the rhythmic gymnastics.

The competition will take place at Wembley Arena in London. Check the forecast for the venue if you are travelling to watch the rhythmic gymnastics.
