Rain in the west. Drier further east.
Today:
A band of rain in the west slowly moves northeast through the day, giving a mostly wet day to western parts. Driest in the east, especially the southeast with sunny spells. A little milder for most. Breezy.
Tonight:
Rain continuing in western parts, turning heavy at times, mainly over high ground. Further east staying dry with clear spells and turning chilly again by dawn.
Tuesday:
Heavy showery rain again for western parts with strong winds on exposed coasts. Staying largely dry in the east. Breezy at first but winds easing through the day.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Often changeable through the week with showers, longer spells of rain and sunnier intervals in between. Generally more settled across northern parts. Warmer than of late and breezy at times.

A fairly uncertain period through the bank holiday weekend with more likely a warm but cloudy period with bright spells, greatest in the north and showers more likely in the south. However there is also potential for a more unsettled spell to spread from the west with fresh winds and bands of rain mid-weekend, signals still unclear regards this. Into the new week all areas are likely to see a mixture of showery periods or spells of rain, though generally drier conditions expected. Overall, southern parts of the UK will probably be driest and sunniest with a north-westerly wind most likely bringing more changeable conditions across the north or northwest. Temperatures should remain close to or a little above normal for early May.

In this period, the chances of unsettled weather are slightly less than usual in the north and about the same as usual further south. Therefore, some spells of wet weather are likely for all, but perhaps especially across southern areas while the driest conditions relative to normal are probably further north. The chance of below or above average temperatures is fairly balanced overall, but it is worth noting that average temperatures themselves rise by around 1C per week at this time of year.
