Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Tuesday 4 Nov 2014 to Thursday 13 Nov 2014:

On Tuesday, a cool and showery north or northwesterly airstream will affect the UK, with showers most frequent in the northwest where they may fall as snow over hills. It will be windy at times too. Temperatures generally a little below average, and feeling cold in comparison to the recent very mild weather. Showers should gradually ease from around midweek with more in the way of brighter weather, and frost at night. Thereafter a return to more unsettled and windy weather from the west looks the most likely scenario, with spells of rain pushing northeastwards across the country interspersed by brighter, showery and colder days. Some particularly wet and windy weather is a possibility at times. Temperatures are likely to return to nearer normal for November.

UK Outlook for Friday 14 Nov 2014 to Friday 28 Nov 2014:

During this period, the generally west or southwesterly flow is likely to bring spells of wet and windy weather, especially to northern and western parts of the UK. However, southern and eastern areas may see some drier and settled conditions increasing the likelihood of some sunshine, but also the risk of frost, mist and fog overnight, the latter of which could be slow to clear. Spells of unsettled weather are still likely across the south and east though. Daytime temperatures may well be near normal, although it will feel colder during any wet and windy spells.

Bournemouth information

Bournemouth is a coastal town in the south west of England, situated in the county of Dorset. Located between Poole and Christchurch, the town is accessible via road on the A338 - also known as the Wessex Way.

Founded in 1810, Bournemouth grew with the introduction of the railway, which saw a huge surge in visitors numbers to the seaside town. As the city grew, so did the attractions; starting with a library and museum and increasing to art galleries, cinemas and other attractions.

Throughout history, Bournemouth has been known as a seaside resort. Boasting seven miles of award winning beaches, the bay of Bournemouth takes its shelter from the surrounding cliffs to create its own microclimate - ideal for holidaymakers. The beach offers a variety of amusements from a stroll along the pier through to water sports. It is even host to the annual Bournemouth air festival, which is spread over four days of flying displays, shopping and evening entertainment.

There are many attractions in the surrounding area to explore including the New Forest, a myriad of quaint coastal towns, rugged walks and breathtakingly beautiful coastal scenes.

Average winter temperatures in Bournemouth can vary from 1.2 °C at their lowest to as mild as 8.7 °C. The coldest month is usually February, whilst December sees the warmest temperatures over winter. It also has more days of air frost on average than any other month. Bournemouth winter temperatures tend to be 1 to 2 °C warmer when compared to the UK average. On average, rainfall accumulation is lower in January compared to December, and typically February has even less. December has the second highest rainfall accumulation of any month.

From March to May sunshine hours increase significantly above the UK average. Likewise temperatures increase from 11 °C to 17 °C. Compared to other months from the start of spring to the end of summer, March has a relatively high accumulation of rainfall on average. This figure drops for April, and then again for May. Similarly, March has more 'rain days' than any month until October.

July is usually the hottest month in Bournemouth where average summer temperatures in reach 22.1 °C. The average maximum temperature for August is almost the same. July is also the sunniest month of the year with an average of 232 sunshine hours. August has fewer days of rainfall more than 1mm than any other month, although July has the least rainfall accumulation.

September in Bournemouth can be as mild as June with a maximum daytime average of 19.3 °C. It's rare but not unknown for an air frost to occur as early as September in Bournemouth; though the long term average is around one day every ten years. Autumn months see the most rainfall in Bournemouth as collectively the average accumulation is around 267 mm.
