Any lingering rain will gradually clear eastern areas this evening, leaving a dry night for the south, but with scattered heavy showers in the north and west. Turning chilly where the cloud breaks, with patchy mist developing in rural areas.

Tuesday:

Variable cloud with some sunny spells, with the best of these in the south and southwest. Scattered locally heavy showers will continue in the north, and parts of the midlands.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Cool northerly winds will bring sunny spells and showers throughout, these locally heavy in the east. Chilly nights, especially in the west, with a touch of frost possible.

UK Outlook for Saturday 5 Sep 2015 to Monday 14 Sep 2015:

Saturday is likely to be quite cloudy and cool with a few showers, more especially in the north and east. Sunday remains on the cool side, but there should be more in the way of bright spells, with any showers becoming increasingly confined to the east. Into the following week settled conditions should become established across all parts, bringing mostly fine and dry weather, with some cool misty starts followed by sunny spells followed by spells of bright Autumn sunshine. Temperatures on the whole will be a little below average, although it will feel pleasantly warm in the sunshine with generally light winds. Overnight temperatures are likely to be on the chilly side, with a risk of some localised rural grass frosts, most especially in the north.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 15 Sep 2015 to Tuesday 29 Sep 2015:

The second half of September is expected to start with generally fine and settled conditions, with plenty of dry and bright weather with some pleasant sunshine, and with only a brief spells of cloudier, wetter weather. Eventually a northwest to southeast split develops in the weather, with the southeast holding on to the best of the drier weather while the northwest sees occasional bouts of rain and strong winds. Temperatures will be generally close to average, but with some chilly nights, more especially in the north.

Known commonly as the Steel City, Sheffield in South Yorkshire is at the very heart of the UK. The city of Sheffield is known throughout the world as the home of steel, with the city a vital part of Britain's industrial past.

The average minimum temperature in Sheffield during winter ranges from 1.7 °C to 2.3 °C. Like many places across the UK, February in Sheffield is usually the coldest month. There are also the most days of air frost in February. Rainfall accumulation is highest in winter than any other season for Sheffield, but still lower than the national average. January has the most days with rain greater than 1mm.

Spring temperatures are relatively mild in Sheffield and higher than the UK average. From March temperatures reach average highs of close to 10 °C. Sunshine hours increase dramatically from February to March and then again from April to May. In fact May is the second sunniest month in Sheffield - the figure takes a dip in June. Spring is the driest time of the year in Sheffield with rainfall accumulation lower than summer. There are however, more 'rain days' in spring, particularly March and April.

By June, temperatures in Sheffield reach an average maximum of 18.8 °C, above the national average. This rises to an average of 21.1 °C in July, which is the warmest month of the year.
