Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Monday most likely cloudy and breezy with rain, heavy in places. Rain clearing Tuesday morning then fresher with winds easing. A chilly start Wednesday then sunny spells and isolated showers.

Rain across southern and eastern parts Monday gradually clearing, with drier, brighter conditions following Tuesday. Showers in the north slowly ease. Some pleasant sunshine, but chilly nights developing for all.

UK Outlook for Thursday 3 Sep 2015 to Saturday 12 Sep 2015:

The gradual change to more settled conditions across the UK continues with plenty of dry and bright weather across much of the UK through the weekend, however there will still be the odd shower around at first, especially towards the southeast. The mostly fine and dry weather is expected to continue through until the middle of September, however there is a risk that more unsettled conditions, with further spells of rain, could push into northwestern parts early next week. Temperatures on the whole will be slightly below average, although it will feel pleasantly warm in the sunny spells and light winds. Overnight temperatures throughout the period are likely to be on the chilly side, with a risk of localised rural frost and fog patches, mainly in the north.

UK Outlook for Sunday 13 Sep 2015 to Sunday 27 Sep 2015:

The generally settled and fine conditions are expected to continue across Southeastern parts of the UK through much of September, with plenty of dry and sunny weather, and only a low risk of short lived spells of cloud and rain. In contrast it is likely to remain on the unsettled side in the Northwest for the majority of the month, with occasional bouts of rain and strong winds likely. Temperatures will generally be around average in most parts, but feeling warm under any prolonged sunny periods in the Southeast by day, with some chilly nights in the North.

Sheffield information

Known commonly as the Steel City, Sheffield in South Yorkshire is at the very heart of the UK. The city of Sheffield is known throughout the world as the home of steel, with the city a vital part of Britain's industrial past.

The average minimum temperature in Sheffield during winter ranges from 1.7 °C to 2.3 °C. Like many places across the UK, February in Sheffield is usually the coldest month. There are also the most days of air frost in February. Rainfall accumulation is highest in winter than any other season for Sheffield, but still lower than the national average. January has the most days with rain greater than 1mm.

Spring temperatures are relatively mild in Sheffield and higher than the UK average. From March temperatures reach average highs of close to 10 °C. Sunshine hours increase dramatically from February to March and then again from April to May. In fact May is the second sunniest month in Sheffield - the figure takes a dip in June. Spring is the driest time of the year in Sheffield with rainfall accumulation lower than summer. There are however, more 'rain days' in spring, particularly March and April.

By June, temperatures in Sheffield reach an average maximum of 18.8 °C, above the national average. This rises to an average of 21.1 °C in July, which is the warmest month of the year. Sunshine hours are highest in July too. In the order of 200 hours is typical. Rainfall accumulation is a little higher than spring but still below the UK average.

Temperatures start to decrease in Sheffield from the end of August. By October average highs are around 13 °C. It's rare to see an air frost in September in Sheffield. Even in October the likelihood is less than the UK average. Rainfall is quite high in October but dips in November. Out of any month, September has the fewest number of days with rainfall greater than 1 mm.
