UK forecast for the next 5 days

Cold and bright for many, becoming unsettled into the weekend.

Today:

A frosty start, particularly in the north where there is an ice risk too, then largely sunny and cold. Showers move south across Northern Ireland, northern England and Wales, wintry over hills, although becoming lighter and scattered by the afternoon.

Tonight:

Quickly turning cold this evening with a widespread frost developing under clear skies, perhaps the odd fog patch too. Cloud and rain arrive in the far southwest later.

Friday:

A bright, cold start, then rain and strong winds spread eastwards. Some snow likely, most probably across hills from Wales northwards, perhaps to low-levels in places later. Drier northern Scotland.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Rain and snow clearing southeast, then turning clearer from the north with some wintry showers at first. Thereafter, largely fine and bright, but rather cold by day and night.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Monday 29 Dec 2014 to Wednesday 7 Jan 2015:

Largely dry and bright with lengthy spells of sunshine for much of the UK on Monday and Tuesday, although early fog may be slow to clear. Temperatures generally below average, and feeling especially cold where fog is slow to clear. For much of the rest of the week, fine conditions likely to persist, though there is a chance of cloudier conditions with rain at times in the far northwest, this perhaps spreading further southeastwards later. Fog and frosty nights are likely, with maxima remaining below average away from the far northwest. Through the following week, a gradual return to more unsettled conditions to at least the north of the UK is likely, though still some drier spells with overnight frost and fog in the south.

UK Outlook for Thursday 8 Jan 2015 to Thursday 22 Jan 2015:

The most likely scenario for this part of January is for changeable, and at times, windy weather coming from the Atlantic with the wettest weather probably across western parts of the UK, and southern and eastern parts most likely to see the best of any dry weather. In between the wetter periods there should be some drier, brighter, and colder spells. Temperatures are most likely to be around, or a little above average for the time of year with overnight frost and fog at times, and some snow is possible, particularly over the high ground in the north.
