Regional forecast for North West England

Largely cloudy on Tuesday with patchy drizzly rain in north.

This Evening and Tonight:

After an early dip in temperatures, the clear spells will be displaced by increasing amounts of cloud through the night. This cloud will produce some patchy drizzle which will be most prevalent across the Pennines and Cumbrian Fells. Minimum Temperature 2C.

Tuesday:

Largely cloudy and breezy with occasional outbreaks of light rain or drizzle across the north, these mainly in the north and across the hills. More persistent rain pushing south overnight. Maximum Temperature 7C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Strong to gale force northwesterly winds will bring frequent sleet and snow showers on Wednesday and Thursday with significant wind chill. Sunny spells and wintry showers by Friday.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Outbreaks of rain in northwest. Drier elsewhere with patchy frost.

Cloudy and breezy in the north with showers giving way to outbreaks of rain across northwest Scotland. Dry elsewhere, bar a little drizzle in the west, with clear spells allowing a patchy frost, mainly across southern and southeastern parts.

Tuesday:

Sunny, chilly start across southeastern parts, but becoming cloudier. Elsewhere, rather cloudy and breezy with patchy rain in the north and west, becoming persistent northwest Scotland later with coastal gales.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Rain clearing southeast Wednesday introducing colder, brighter conditions from the northwest. Snow showers affecting northwestern parts Wednesday and Thursday, scattered wintry showers elsewhere. Wintry showers Friday. Windy, significant wind chill.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Saturday 31 Jan 2015 to Monday 9 Feb 2015:

The cold and showery theme to the weather will persist through the weekend as northerly winds bring hail, sleet and snow showers to the country, these frequent across northern parts, with overnight frost and ice. The strong northerly winds, with gales in places, will accentuate the cold with a significant wind chill. The best of the drier, brighter weather will be across sheltered southern parts. These conditions will likely last into the first week of February, but there are signs of more changeable weather by the end of the forecast period as winds turn more westerly. By then, spells of wind and rain coming in off the Atlantic would mean that temperatures may return to nearer normal values and thus the likelihood of snow, frost and ice would be lower.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 10 Feb 2015 to Tuesday 24 Feb 2015:

It looks most likely that unsettled conditions will continue across much of the UK with temperatures closer to normal when compared to the start of February. This may be more obvious across parts of southern and western Britain where it might be a little wetter than average as spells of wind and rain make their way in from the Atlantic. However, there is the possibility of pressure building around the middle of the month bringing more settled conditions, particularly in the south.
