Regional forecast for Highlands & Eilean Siar

Gales and squally showers easing. Rain developing quickly on Wednesday.

This Evening and Tonight:

Heavy showers continuing this evening before dying away overnight to leave mostly dry conditions with clear spells. Gale force northwesterly winds, sever at first over Caithness and hills, will gradually ease overnight to a fresh southwesterly wind. Rather cold tonight. Minimum Temperature 2C.

Wednesday:

A dry and bright start but soon clouding over from the west with outbreaks of rain, this heavy and persistent across Skye, Lochaber and west. Mild with strengthening southwesterly winds. Maximum Temperature 13C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Bright with rain then showers on Thursday with strong winds. Bright with showers, some heavy, on Friday and Saturday but drier in the east. Possible gales again during Saturday.

Issued at: 1700 on Tue 21 Oct 2014

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Gales and showers slowly easing. Rain returning to the northwest.

This Evening and Tonight:

Gales will steadily ease, although it will remain breezy in many areas. A few showers will linger on into the early hours, but most places will become dry. Turning chilly in sheltered spots, with a touch of grass frost.

Wednesday:

A dry, bright start for many southern and eastern areas, though turning cloudier through the day. Rain and freshening winds will return to Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

A band of rain will push southeast across all parts, clearing southeast England early on Saturday. Generally quite windy, with a risk of gales and squally showers in the northwest.

Issued at: 1700 on Tue 21 Oct 2014

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Sunday 26 Oct 2014 to Tuesday 4 Nov 2014:

Showery and very windy across northern areas on Sunday and Monday, with a risk of severe gales for a time. Somewhat less windy further to the south, though with increasing amounts of cloud. Into the midweek period, a north-south split looks most probable, with windy and often unsettled conditions continuing in the north and somewhat quieter, drier weather in the south. Temperatures will generally be near normal, although feeling quite cold in the strong winds. Towards the end of October and into early November, the broad north-south split looks set to continue, with northern areas remaining changeable and at times unsettled. Further south, there are hints that pressure may start to rise, increasing the potential for more prolonged drier periods, but with a greater risk of overnight frost and fog.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 5 Nov 2014 to Wednesday 19 Nov 2014:

The main signal is for a continuation of a north-south split during the first half of November. During this period, the generally westerly flow is likely to bring spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with drier intervals. These should mostly affect northern and some western areas, but perhaps reaching other areas as well at times. However southern and some eastern areas will probably see more in the way of the drier and settled conditions increasing the likelihood of seeing some sunshine, but also the risk of frost, mist and fog overnight, the latter of which could be slow to clear. Daytime temperatures are likely to be near or a little above normal, although feeling cooler during any wet and windy spells.
