Regional forecast for Highlands & Eilean Siar

Cold and bright with sunny intervals and showers. Breezy.

Today:

A bright day with sunshine and showers, these wintry over the higher ground, and to lower levels at times in the north. The best of the sunshine will be across Inverness and Speyside. Fresh or strong northwesterly winds. Maximum Temperature 7C.

Tonight:

Showers becoming isolated and largely confined to the north overnight, with long clear spells leading to a widespread frost as the north to northwesterly winds ease. Minimum Temperature -3C.

Thursday:

A few light showers over Caithness, otherwise most places will stay dry with sunny spells, although clouding over with patchy rain spreading to the southwest later in the afternoon. Maximum Temperature 8C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Cloudy with rain at times on Friday and Saturday, mainly across the north and west, then mainly dry and bright on Sunday with perhaps some sunshine.

Updated at: 0443 on Wed 01 Apr 2015

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Less windy. Cloud and rain spreading east later.

Today:

Staying breezy, though winds will slowly ease for most. Sunny intervals and wintry showers in the north, mainly hills. A bright start further south, but cloud building in the west through the morning, spreading east and bringing some rain.

Tonight:

Rather cloudy in the south and west with outbreaks of rain, heavy in places. Clear and cold in the north and northeast, with wintry showers easing.

Thursday:

Dry and cold to start for many, bright in the north and east with a few showers. Cloudy in the south and west with some rain, spreading slowly northeastwards later.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Friday breezy with rain at first and drier conditions later. Saturday and Sunday largely dry with mostly light winds but generally large amounts of cloud around. Temperatures mainly near average.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Sunday 5 Apr 2015 to Tuesday 14 Apr 2015:

There will probably be a fair amount of cloud during the Easter period, however there will more than likely be a good deal of dry weather with some sunny spells, particularly over south and southwestern parts, and winds should be light. Some northern and eastern parts may be affected by isolated showers though, especially on Easter Monday. High pressure is then likely to remain dominant through to the middle of the month with a good deal of dry weather with some sunny spells likely, and with temperatures probably around average, perhaps just above during the daytime. However, northern and northwestern parts could see some rain at times with some windier periods too, although any rain should weaken as it edges southwards into other parts.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 15 Apr 2015 to Wednesday 29 Apr 2015:

From the middle of April it is probable that the high pressure will ease away, allowing a more westerly flow with conditions more typical for the time of year. As such some spells of fine, dry weather are likely, the best of these probably over southeastern parts. Occasional bouts of more unsettled weather with colder showery conditions should also be expected, more especially across northwestern parts. Temperatures are likely to be around normal for the time of year with marked differences from day to day, and with localised frost still possible.
