This Evening and Tonight:

Cloud will thicken across all parts of the region overnight with outbreaks of rain. It will become windy for many, particularly over exposed coasts and hills. Minimum Temperature 13 °C.

Thursday:

A wet and windy start for many, with some heavy rain at times. Rain moves east through the morning, and it will gradually turn drier and brighter from the west. Maximum Temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Dry at first on Friday, but turning wet and windy later. Largely dry and breezy with sunny spells on Saturday. Variable amounts of cloud on Sunday with rain at times.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
