Regional forecast for South West England

Today:

There'll be some bright spells for some of us but it'll be mainly cloudy through the day. There is a risk of rain in the northwest later and the winds will be fresh. Remaining mild, despite the wind and cloud. Maximum Temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

Remaining rather breezy with outbreaks of patchy rain for many. It'll be a mild night with low cloud and fog shrouding many coastal areas and higher ground. Minimum Temperature 8 °C.

Saturday:

Rain will move eastwards through the day to affect all parts. It will turn persistent and locally heavy, with drier, clearer conditions following during the evening. Maximum Temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Drier and slightly colder into Sunday, with sunny spells and light winds. Patchy rain may spread north-eastwards on Monday. Possibly turning windier and milder with some rain on Tuesday.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
