Regional forecast for Central Tayside & Fife

Today:

Most staying dry by day, but some patchy rain will develop across far western areas of Tayside and Central regions. Best of the brighter spells during the morning and in eastern areas such as Dundee and Angus, otherwise rather cloudy. Maximum Temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

Patchy light rain spreading from west to the rest of area during the evening, before clearing to scattered showers overnight, these mainly in Tayside and turning wintry across higher ground. Minimum Temperature 3 °C.

Monday:

Not at all spring like with cold, strong north to northwest winds bringing showers which turn increasingly wintry from the north, with snow lying mainly across higher ground. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Wintry showers, strong northerly winds for Tuesday. Turning milder from west Wednesday and Thursday as winds ease, with patchy rain and limited brighter spells. Temperatures recovering towards the seasonal averages.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
