Regional forecast for London & South East England

Today:

Dry and very warm again inland with long periods of sunshine. More breeze than Thursday and feeling cooler along the coast where the breeze is onshore. Maximum Temperature 27 °C.

Tonight:

Dry, warm and muggy with long clear periods. Cloud increasing in the west later perhaps with the odd heavy shower arriving around dawn. Minimum Temperature 17 °C.

Saturday:

Warm and humid. Turning cloudy during the morning with thundery showers at times. During the afternoon the showers will move away northwards allowing long sunny spells to develop. Maximum Temperature 28 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunday will be cooler and fresher than of late, turning cloudy later with heavy overnight showers. Cloudy on Monday with further thundery showers likely. Turning drier and brighter on Tuesday.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
