Many areas dry and cloudy overnight, but a chance of some patchy light rain or drizzle across western counties at times where cloud thickens. Remaining mild overnight with southwesterly winds picking up a little, most notable around the coast. Minimum Temperature 8 °C.

Wednesday:

Mostly dry and bright with variable amounts of cloud allowing a few sunny spells at times. Feeling pleasantly warm with a southwesterly breeze. Maximum Temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Mostly dry and warm Thursday and early Friday with variable cloud and sunny spells. Rain later on Friday, then becoming fresher Saturday with sunshine and scattered heavy, perhpas thundery showers.

What are tides?

Tides refer to the rise and fall of a body of water, most commonly seen in the oceans; caused by the interaction between the moon, sun and Earth.

As the positions of Earth, sun and moon change in relation to each other, the gravitational pull and centrifugal forces acting upon the oceans vary and it is these differences that cause fluctuation in the height of the sea which we see at the tides going out and in.

In the UK we mostly experience a semi-diurnal tide which means we experience two high tides and two low tides each day. These occur approximately every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
