Jessica Standen

Jessica works with limited area configurations of the Unified Model to produce information for the wind energy sector.

Areas of expertise

  • Running NWP models using the Unified Model
  • Using forecast model output to produce maps of wind resources

Current activities

Jessica is a member of the mesoscale model development and diagnostics team, whose responsibilities include developing, maintaining and diagnosing problems of limited area configurations of the Unified Model.  Jessica works on producing high resolution hindcast data sets by rerunning a series of nested NWP models over the UK and Europe for use in the renewable energy and insurance industries.

Jessica also works on the downscaling and processing of these data sets to test and develop products for the wind energy sector including wind atlases.

Career background

Jessica has been a member of the mesoscale model development and diagnostics team since she joined the Met Office in 2009 after graduating with an MMath in Mathematics from the  University of Exeter in the same year.
