The inshore waters forecast issued by the Met Office, on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency

For coastal areas up to 12 miles offshore from Friday 25 April 2014 at 0600 UTC until Saturday 26 April 2014 at 0600 UTC

General Situation at 0600 UTC on Fri 25 Apr 2014

Although pressure will stay high between Greenland and northern Scandinavia, a deepening Atlantic low will move into the Southwest Approaches by Saturday then remain slow moving through Sunday.

Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: Variable 4 in Moray Firth at first, otherwise east or southeast 4 or 5, increasing 6 or 7. Slight or moderate. Showers, fog patches in north and east at first. Moderate or good in Moray Firth, otherwise moderate or poor occasionally very poor, becoming mainly good.

Outlook:  East 5 to 7, decreasing 4 or 5. Moderate or rough. Occasional rain or showers. Moderate or good, occasionally poor.

Rattray Head to Berwick upon Tweed - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: East or northeast 3 or 4 increasing 5 or 6. Slight or moderate. Occasional rain, fog patches at first. Moderate or poor, occasionally very poor, becoming moderate or good.

Outlook:  Easterly or northeasterly, veering southeasterly for a time, 5 or 6 decreasing 3 or 4. Mainly moderate. Occasional rain or showers. Moderate or good, occasionally poor at first.

Berwick upon Tweed to Whitby

24 hour forecast: East or northeast, veering southeast later, 3 or 4 increasing 4 or 5. Slight, becoming moderate. Occasional rain, fog banks at first. Poor or very poor, becoming moderate or poor.

Outlook:  East or southeast 4 or 5, backing northeast 3 or 4. Moderate. Occasional rain or showers. Moderate, occasionally poor.

Whitby to Gibraltar Point

24 hour forecast: East or northeast veering southeast, 3 or 4 increasing 4 or 5. Slight or moderate. Rain or showers, fog banks until later. Poor or very poor, becoming moderate or poor.

Outlook:  East or southeast, veering south for a time, 4 or 5, backing northeast 3 or 4 later. Slight or moderate. Occasional rain or showers. Moderate or poor, occasionally good.

Gibraltar Point to North Foreland

24 hour forecast: Mainly northeasterly 3 or 4, occasionally 5, becoming cyclonic then southerly or southeasterly later. Mainly slight. Thundery showers, fog patches at first. Moderate or poor, occasionally very poor at first, becoming good.

Outlook:  Easterly or southeasterly 4 or 5, decreasing 3 or 4. Slight or moderate. Occasional rain or showers. Moderate or good, occasionally poor.

North Foreland to Selsey Bill - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: Easterly or northeasterly becoming cyclonic then westerly or southwesterly 3 or 4, occasionally 5, backing southerly 5 to 7 later. Slight or moderate. Fog patches in far east at first, rain or showers. Moderate or poor, occasionally very poor in far east at first, becoming good.

Selsey Bill to Lyme Regis - Strong winds are forecast

Lyme Regis to Lands End including the Isles of Scilly - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: Variable 2 or 3, occasionally 4, becoming southerly or southeasterly 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8 in west, veering southwesterly later except in far east. Slight or moderate, becoming rough in west later. Occasional rain or showers. Moderate or good, occasionally poor.

Lands End to St Davids Head including the Bristol Channel - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: Variable 2 or 3, occasionally 4, becoming southerly or southeasterly 6 to gale 8 later, but mainly 4 or 5 in far east, and veering southwesterly in west later. Slight in far east otherwise slight or moderate, becoming moderate or rough. Occasional rain or showers. Moderate or good.

Mull of Kintyre to Ardnamurchan Point - Strong winds are forecast

Ardnamurchan Point to Cape Wrath - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: Variable mainly east or northeast 3 or 4, occasionally 5, increasing 5 to 7. Slight or moderate. Fair then occasional rain or showers. Moderate or good.

Outlook:  East or northeast 5 to 7, decreasing 3 or 4. Moderate or rough. Occasional rain or showers. Moderate or good.

Channel Islands - Strong winds are forecast

24 hour forecast: North to northwest 3 or 4, backing west 2 to 4 during the morning, then south by late afternoon, increasing 5 or 6 by midnight, perhaps locally 7 in the north, then veering southwest. Slight to moderate, becoming rather rough overnight. Occasional rain at first, further rain from late evening. Moderate to poor in rain, otherwise good.

Outlook:  South to southwest 5 or 6, veering southwest to west soon after midnight and decreasing 3 or 4 by dawn. Moderate to rather rough with a swell, becoming slight to moderate after midnight. Outbreaks of rain, soon turning to scattered showers. Good, locally moderate to poor in rain and showers.
