The Met Office has been named the most cycle-friendly business in the city in a new awards scheme.
We gained the highest score in attaining a Gold Award for our facilities, incentives, promotion and events for staff who cycle. We have won four VIP passes to the Tour Series cycle race in Exeter on Thursday 3 June, during which we will receive our trophy. We have also won a 'Cycling celebration day' at the office, which includes bike demonstrations and free cycling goodies.
Sandie Coxill, Facilities Service Manager, said: "We are very pleased to receive this award, and would like to thank Devon County Council for all their support. Our cycle facilities benefit the environment and the many members of our staff who regularly cycle to work whatever the weather!"
In total 31 Exeter-based companies will receive Business is Better by Bike Awards from Devon County Council's Cycle Exeter team. All of the award winners will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze award logos which they can display on their website and on company materials.
The awards were launched in partnership with Exeter Chamber of Commerce in March to find the most cycle-friendly employers in Exeter, with the aim of raising the profile of commuting to work by bike and promoting the benefits of cycling.
As well as encouraging staff to ride by providing a number of bike sheds, we run a pool bike system, which allows employees to make use of bikes, free of charge for:
Local business journeys.
Leisure use during the working day (e.g. to city centre during lunch breaks).
Emergency transport if public transport or car sharer is unexpectedly unavailable.
Trying out cycling to work (for a maximum of five days).
