Android and iPhone apps exceed 1 million downloads

07 February 2012 - The arrival of snow and cold temperatures at the weekend proved how invaluable having accurate forecasts on the move can be.

Last weekend our new iPhone app was used over six and a half million times, or over 35 times every second, as people kept up to date with Met Office forecasts during the cold and snowy weather.

Our new Android app and updated iPhone app have been downloaded over a million times in less than two weeks.

Neil Commander, Account Director at Mubaloo, said: "We are delighted with the uptake of the new Android app and updated iPhone app. The usage of the apps over the weekend really highlights how important it is that people can access up-to-date weather information on the move, 24 hours a day."

The new Android app is the latest addition to our range of products for mobile users and provides easy access to the latest weather forecasts and warnings wherever you are and is available from the Android Market.

The app allows users to save multiple favourite locations so local weather information is available at your fingertips 24 hours a day.

Key features of the new Android app include:

  • Free to download
  • Up to date weather forecasts and warnings
  • At a glance five day overview
  • Three-hourly location forecasts
  • 5000 locations to choose from with multiple favourites

The iPhone app, available from the  Apple App Store has been updated and now includes three-hourly forecasts out to five days ahead, UV forecast maps and information on the likelihood of rain or snow. The new design will be even easier to navigate enabling people to get the most up to date weather information across the UK.
