Forecasters at the Met Office have issued an amber warning for heavy rain across parts of north west England as more wet and windy weather pushes across parts of the British Isles.
A vigorous depression developing over the UK will bring spells of rain to many regions through Thursday night and into Friday before easing away early on Saturday, bringing the potential for 50 mm of rain quite widely accompanied by 50 mph winds.
The heaviest rain for Wales is expected during Friday morning, when western parts could see more than 70 mm.
During Friday afternoon and evening, Merseyside and Greater Manchester could see similar amounts of rainfall but parts of Lancashire could see more than 100 mm of rain which has the potential to cause significant disruption.
Eddy Carroll, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office said: "Whilst Wales and northern England are expected to bear the brunt of the heaviest and persistent rain, there remains some uncertainty concerning where the highest accumulations will fall"
Kate Marks at the Environment Agency said: "The Environment Agency is asking people in Greater Manchester, Liverpool, the Wirral, and North Cheshire and Lancashire to remain vigilant and prepared for flooding from tomorrow afternoon through to Saturday, after the Met Office has warned of very heavy rain.
"The Environment Agency has mobilised teams across the North West to check on flood defences, clear any river blockages and closely monitor river levels. These teams will be working around the clock to reduce the risk of flooding, and will be out in force again over the coming days."
However, it is not expected to rain everywhere all of the time and for many parts of southern England on Friday there should be some sunshine and just a scattering of showers but with strong, blustery winds.
Southern areas may well continue to see some dry and bright weather on Saturday while outbreaks of rain continue in the north.
Warnings will be updated as necessary so please keep up to date with them on our Severe weather warnings.
