Windpower Monthly's 2^nd Wind Resource Assessment Forum will share leading practices for overcoming the challenges associated with more complex wind energy sites. It will also examine the best solutions for improving the accuracy of energy yield predictions to increase project bankability and ensure investor confidence.

Dr Clive Wilson, Met Office Mesoscale Model Development and Diagnostics Manager, will contribute to the discussion by examining the 'Reanalyses to very fine scale models - strengths, weaknesses and how to exploit their potential now and in the future', explaining:  

• How do different re-analyses compare in quality and contribute to the accuracy of mesoscale models downscaling from them?
• How higher resolution nested modelling down to 100m can refine estimates of resources to be more representative of the detailed location.
• Atmospheric stability parameters from mesoscale models.
• Prospects for better, finer scale reanalyses for Europe.

Rob Harrison, Head of Renewables at the Met Office, said: "Managing wind risk is critical. It's not enough to understand only the climatology, it's also vital to understand the risks associated with wind assessment in relation to the overall return on investment of any project and the impact of wind resource on a company's renewable energy business.
