Weather set fair for test events

Weather can have a major effect on cyclists.

12 August 2011 - Favourable conditions are expected for a busy weekend of test events for London 2012.

Met Office forecasters will be on hand to help organisers of London 2012 for this weekend's busy schedule of test events.

Road cycling, long-distance swimming, beach volleyball and sailing are all on the programme as venues are put through their paces.

Specialist teams of forecasters are working in London and Weymouth to provide the latest weather information in advance of, and during the events.

Dedicated facilities, including a floating weather observations buoy, are also on site at the Olympic and Paralympic sailing venue where the Weymouth and Portland International Regatta is under way.

They will be providing detailed weather forecasts focusing on the elements that affect each event, giving a full test-run of services which will be used during the Olympic and Paralympic Games next year.

Good sailing conditions are expected on Saturday with fair, warm weather and light winds for the cycling and beach volleyball throughout the weekend.

Light south-westerly winds are expected across the south of England on Saturday, with sunny spells developing after a cloudy and damp start to the day.

For Sunday, mostly dry and bright conditions are forecast to continue making for ideal conditions for cyclists and spectators alike.

The Met Office will be providing weather forecasts throughout the series of Olympic and Paralympic test events that are taking place. Forecasts will be available from the event forecast pages of the Met Office website.
