25 October 2012 - As families get ready for the half term break across many parts of the country the Met Office is launching a new Days Out Facebook app to help make the most of the weather when planning days out.
The first app of its kind to combine weather with national tourist attractions, it will allow you to find out what the most popular days out destinations are in your region. It will then allow you to see if your friends have visited, and most importantly check the latest weather forecast.
Derrick Ryall, Head of Public Weather Service at the Met Office said: "There are some great places to visit across the UK and this new 'Days out' Facebook app will help you decide where to take the family for a day out - whether that's a trip to a theme park, famous landmark or even your local park."
The new app allows you to easily access the forecast - including the minimum and maximum temperatures and expected weather conditions - for day trip locations all over the United Kingdom.
The app also allows you to click through to a detailed forecast from the Met Office for your day out - be it a trip to Stonehenge, Blackpool or even Shakespeare's birthplace.
Developed in conjunction with Facebook developer Betapond, Days Out uses the Met Office's detailed 5000 forecast locations in order to provide forecasts for the exact location day trippers are planning on visiting and allows you to share the weather with your friends when planning a day out.
You can access the Met Office Days Out app via the Met Office Facebook page.
