Headline:
Rain moving southeastwards with colder conditions following behind.
Today:
Largely dry but rather cloudy across southern parts today. Elsewhere, a band of rain, occasionally heavy, will gradually move southeastwards, with scattered blustery showers following behind. Widely windy, with gales in the north where it will also turn colder later.
Tonight:
The band of rain continuing to move southeastwards, clearing East Anglia during the early hours. Scattered blustery showers following, with these turning wintry in the north.
Wednesday:
Sunny spells and blustery wintry showers. The showers most frequent across the north and northwest where they will be heavy with hail and thunder. Feeling cold with brisk winds.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Briefly drier for most on Thursday, before another spell of rain moves southeastwards later and into Friday. Scattered showers following into Saturday, most frequent in the north. Temperatures slowly recovering.

A broadly changeable pattern will continue, at least through the first part of this period, as further frontal systems move across the UK, bringing rain and stronger winds at times. Weather fronts are likely to be more active across northern areas, thus the wettest and windiest conditions are more likely here. As they come south, often running in to a ridge of higher pressure extending from the southwest, frontal systems will often be weaker and rainfall amounts smaller. In this setup, temperatures will probably pan out close to average overall, with some overnight frost where skies are clear and winds light.

High pressure may be more dominant at the start of this period, the centre of which transferring from somewhere west or southwest of the UK to somewhere north of the UK. As such, plenty of dry weather seems most likely, but with changes in wind direction leading to some quite marked differences in cloud amounts and temperature from day to day. Moving further into April, there is a chance that high pressure will become less dominant and thus there is a greater chance of more places seeing some rain and possible stronger winds from time to time. Overall, temperatures panning out somewhere near to average.
