Winds and rain in the forecast as unsettled weather takes charge

Today's band of rain will gradually clear to the east this evening, leaving many areas dry with clear spells developing overnight. However western areas will continue to see showers feed in from the Atlantic which may be occasionally heavy.
Sunshine and scattered showers for many, these heavy and thundery at times. Breezy, especially in the west, and feeling cooler here, but warmer in sunny spells in the east.
Staying unsettled this weekend with further spells of rain and showers. Widely wet and windy on Saturday, but with some brightness returning on Sunday. Temperatures remaining around average.

This will mean showers or longer spells of rain will affect the majority of the UK at times. Some heavy rain or showers are expected in places, most often in the west. Thunderstorms and hail are also possible, as are some spells of strong winds if any deep areas of low pressure form in the vicinity of the UK. Some short-lived spells of drier and more settled weather are also possible at times. Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly below overall, but may rise above at times in any drier, sunnier spells.
