Finding our new charity partner

Applications are now open to find our new partner charity for the next three years and will close on Friday 13 June 2025.

Each three years, we select a new corporate charity. In November 2022, we announced The Wildlife Trusts as our official partner charity following a detailed selection process involving employee votes.

Having a corporate charity partner is integral to the Met Office's mission and values. Our corporate charity partnerships enhance our role as a responsible organisation and strengthen our connection with the community.

Partnership benefits

As well as a commitment to fundraising, our chosen charity will also receive other benefits from a partnership with the Met Office. Over the years, we have had the privilege of collaborating with several remarkable charity partners, including Surfers Against Sewage, RNLI, WaterAid, and ShelterBox. Each partnership has brought unique opportunities for engagement and impact.

The successful charity can expect our support through social media channels, as well as being provided with free ad space on our website. In the past, we have also been involved in joint research projects with our corporate charity.

Additionally, we recently hosted a symbolic tree planting event to commemorate our three years of partnership with The Wildlife Trusts, after surpassing our initial fundraising target of £20,000.

Once we have established a partnership with the successful charity, we will aim to explore what a mutually beneficial partnership looks like to you.

Applications

As part of your application, in no more than 500 words we would like you to tell us:

  • what the aims and values are of your charity
  • how you will make your charity relevant to Met Office employees wherever they work
  • the benefits to both parties of us working together
  • if you are a charity partner of any other organisations
  • how you meet some of our Corporate Objectives and align with our Values
  • how you have a national or international presence or reach or tell us how you will engage with Met Office employees wherever they work.

If you’d like to apply, please fill out this application form.

What happens next?

Once applications have closed, we will contact you to let you know if you have successfully made it onto our shortlist of charities. All shortlisted charities will be informed at the end of June and invited to an internal event at our Exeter HQ on Wednesday 2 July 2025.

At this event, each charity will have the opportunity to talk to our people and fundraise. Although we encourage everyone to send a representative in person to this event, we will also invite each charity to create a short 5-minute video that we can share with our people to explain why they should vote for you (this can be done virtually).

Our staff vote will run from 7-25 July 2025, and we will contact each of the charities to notify you if you have been successful or not after the vote has closed. All charities will be notified in early August 2025. For the successful charity, we would expect to officially begin our partnership in September 2025.
