Current activities

Rhiannon is working to develop the software used for monitoring and assessment of the coupled numerical weather prediction (NWP) and land surface data assimilation activities carried out by the team.

She also contributes to the development and maintenance of the global coupled NWP suite, and the land surface data assimilation system (SURF).

Career background

Rhiannon completed a BSc in Mathematics with a year in Europe at the University of York in 2011 and followed this with an MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing at the University of Oxford. In 2016 she completed her PhD on modelling and observations of the Arctic marginal ice zone at the University of East Anglia. Leaving academia, Rhiannon worked on the Level 2 data processors for the European Space Agency SMOS mission , which measures soil moisture and ocean salinity from space.

Rhiannon has recently joined the Met Office as a senior scientific software developer.
