International defence services

The weather has an impact on nearly all military activities and has influenced the outcome of conflicts throughout history. Operational performance can be reduced or enhanced by environmental factors which can significantly impact on people, platforms, weapons and sensors.

For over 100 years, the Met Office has provided key elements of geospatial intelligence capability for allied and coalition operations worldwide. This has been achieved by building long term relationships with defence partners including North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and the United States.

We also engage in multilateral military exercises and joint scientific research activities across the world, including the Middle East and South East Asia.

This diverse range of experience enables the Met Office to understand the needs of the defence end-user and deliver guidance to support decision making.
