Met Office daily weather: A fine Bank Holiday weekend of weather on the way
A noticeable increase in cloud cover across much of the UK compared to recent days
Saturday will bring a noticeable increase in cloud cover across much of the UK compared to recent days, though parts of the south and southwest will enjoy the best of the sunshine. Scattered showers are expected, particularly in western areas, with Northern Ireland likely to see more persistent rain developing later in the day.
Temperatures will be warmest in the west and southwest, where values may reach the mid-20s Celsius. Elsewhere, conditions will be cooler, with temperatures near or slightly below average for the time of year. Eastern England, in particular, will be several degrees cooler than Friday.

During Saturday night, patchy rain may continue to affect Northern Ireland and parts of southwest and western Scotland. Elsewhere, the night will be largely dry with variable cloud and some clear spells. The clearest conditions are expected across northeast Scotland, southwest England, and Wales, where localised chilly conditions may develop, including isolated fog patches.
In rural areas of southern and northern Scotland, temperatures could dip into the mid-single figures, while elsewhere the night will remain mild.
Outlook for Sunday
Sunday will see variable cloud cover across the UK. In western areas, cloud may thicken enough to produce light rain or drizzle, particularly over windward hills and coastal regions. Any isolated mist or fog patches that form under clearer skies will quickly dissipate during the morning.
A few very light showers may develop in the west later in the day, but conditions will generally remain settled. Winds will be light throughout.
Temperatures will rise from around average to rather warm during the day, with the warming trend continuing from the west. Overnight temperatures will vary depending on cloud cover, with a chance of air frost in sheltered glens of Scotland.
Met Office presenter and meteorologist, Alex Deakin, said: “There’ll be a lot of cloud around first thing Saturday over northern England, the Midlands, Southern Scotland. Maybe a little bit of light rain and drizzle, but most places will have a dry day on Saturday. Good spells of sunshine across the south. Some cloud will bubble up here, but equally where we've got the cloud to start with. It may well break up a little bit to reveal some sunny spells.
“One place we're likely to see the cloud thickening is Northern Ireland with one or two showers likely here through the afternoon, particularly so in the west. And the odd shower also possible across Wales, but they'll be light. They'll be few and far between and most places won't see one. Most places will stay dry with a bit of sunshine. And again, temperatures in the south getting into the low 20s, but again, noticeably cooler. Temperatures still struggling a little bit across northeast England and eastern parts of Scotland.
“Temperatures will rise as we go through the weekend, but during Saturday evening, increasing chance of a few more showers coming into Northern Ireland, perhaps into the west coast of Scotland also, but generally elsewhere it stays dry and stays fine. Temperatures dipping away where we've got those clear skies. And I'm hopeful for a few more clear skies through the weekend. The high pressure, which is bringing the dry, settled weather, just edges slowly out into the North Sea.
“So, we will see those temperatures just building a little bit through Sunday and more notably on Monday, which is, as I said at the start, a bank holiday across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Out in the Atlantic, we are still keeping our eyes on this looking like quite a powerful area of low pressure changing through the course of the weekend from Hurricane Aaron to an area of low pressure that will mix things up a little bit as we go into next week. But before that, plenty of fine weather to be had through the course of this long weekend.”
